The Society of Automotive Engineers

The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) is a professional association of automotive engineers. The American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Society of Women Engineers, the Association of Automobile Manufacturers, and the National Academy of Sciences are among the organizations that make up the organization. Henry Ford created the company in 1905, and it was eventually renamed to reflect its current identity. SAE participates in a variety of events, including the annual Formula SAE competition, in addition to its member organizations. Student chapters, career opportunities, and K-12 programs are also available.

Following WWI, SAE's president, Charles Kettering, became the organization's first president and proceeded to promote member engagement through local chapters. Following WWII, SAE developed relationships with other technical societies and standards bodies all around the world. Other nations, such as Brazil, India, China, Romania, and Romania, began sections as well. Many of the club's members were students interested in the automotive sector, and the group continued to develop and become more international.

The SAE grew increasingly diversified after WWII, with branches in nations including Italy, Brazil, and Romania. For over a century, the group has existed. SAE was founded to set standards for the automotive industry during the Great Depression, and it has grown since then. The Society of Automotive Engineers now has over 380,000 members all around the world. Horace Swetland, who is still a member of the organization, founded it in the beginning.

What is the purpose of the Society of Automotive Engineers?

Since its inception in 1904, the SAE has been a global organization. It embarked on a tour of European nations in 1956, intending to increase engagement with automotive specialists. This tour solidified ties that had been established since the 1950s. The European Association of Automobile Manufacturers (ACEM), the European Organization for Standardization (EFSA), and the German Federal Association of Automobile Manufacturers all work closely with the SAE. It also has relationships with Japanese, German, Australian, and Indian automotive engineering groups.

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers was SAE's initial name. Later, it was renamed the Society of Automotive Engineers. It was founded in 1905 and by 1919 had grown to over 100 members. It worked with the Signal Corps to develop the Liberty aircraft engine and vehicle in 1911. SAE was founded in 1906, and by 1934, it had grown to 5000 members. Nellie M. Scott became the organization's first female member. Over 83,000 people worldwide are members of the Society of Automotive Engineering.

The SAE membership increased from three to eight thousand in 1910. The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) has formally changed its name to the Societies Association of Automotive Engineers from the Society of Automobile Engineers (SAE). The new name better reflects the organization's expanding the worldwide reach and industrial applicability. The Society of Automobile Engineering is still very much in use today.
